Houston Ballet II (HBII) is the second company of Houston Ballet, America’s fifth largest ballet company. Comprised of a stellar array of ballet students from around the world, HBII members perform a diverse range of dance works such as excerpts from the great classics including The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and The Nutcracker to contemporary works by Houston Ballet Artistic Director, Stanton Welch AM.
Houston Ballet II evaluations and performance goals are designed to prepare students for auditions and for admittance into a company as a professional.
Our Mission
The mission of Houston Ballet II is to provide students the opportunity to dance leading roles in varied repertoire, to allow dancers to develop technically and artistically through performance experience, and to serve the greater Houston community by providing quality, professional performances. The visibility of the excellent training in Houston Ballet II supports the growth of the professional company at large.
Training
Our well-rounded training program provides students the opportunity train in a variety of styles. Students' focus will continue on technique, however, a more robust performance training schedule will be added to prepare for Company participation, touring and community performances. Their tuition for this training is valued at $8,350/year. HBII students receive a full tuition scholarship, which covers the cost of the tuition for training. In addition to the tuition
scholarship, HBIIs receive a weekly stipend.
Performance Opportunities
In addition to Academy performances, the HBII performance calendar aligns with the Company season calendar. HBII dancers work alongside Company dancers in select productions.
Joining Houston Ballet II
All Houston Ballet II applicants must first attend a summer intensive audition or submit a video audition as a preliminary requirement. Students may attend a second year by invitation only.
The chart below outlines a typical week as an HBII dancer. This schedule changes weekly based on holidays, performances, and Company rehearsals.
