Houston Ballet Academy offers Professional Program students over 60 Academy performance opportunities each year. Students also have the opportunity to participate in professional company performances, as well as community performances though Education & Community Engagement programs.
HOUSTON BALLET II PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
Houston Ballet II members perform a diverse range of dance works such as excerpts from the great classics including The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and The Nutcracker to contemporary works by Houston Ballet Artistic Director, Stanton Welch AM.
Every Houston Ballet II dancer will be asked to perform a classical variation and a contemporary repertoire as part of their annual evaluation. This takes place on stage at the Wortham Theater in front of a panel of judges that includes company and Academy artistic staff, as well as company dancers. They receive a score and detailed feedback in their consultation with faculty.
COMMUNITY COLLABORATIONS
Houston Ballet Academy cultivates rich, real-time collaboration between dancers and musicians through three distinct partnerships.
Moores School of Music
For over 25 years, Moores School of Music has teamed up with the Academy annually to present unique performances featuring students both onstage and in the orchestra pit.
Musiqa
Musiqa, Houston’s leading contemporary music ensemble, champions new works and multidisciplinary art through collaborations with Houston Ballet II and other cultural partners.
American Festival for the Arts
Since 1997, the partnership with AFA has connected young composers with Academy Summer Intensive choreographers, resulting in over 125 original ballets created and premiered under expert faculty guidance.
